OFFICIAL RULES FOR STREET (on the ice) HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
General: Game length is 32 minutes: 2 x 15 minute halves with a 2-minute break in the middle (your referee will have the timer). 3 vs. 3 with one goalie, games are played on foot (not on iceskates, cleats or broomball shoes).
Teams- Ten players per team, coed (minimum of two members of both sexes) Both teams must have a member of each sex playing at all times.
Player Equipment: it is recommended all participants wear helmets with face shields, mouth guards, gloves and shin pads to prevent any injuries.
Goalie Equipment: Goalies are required to wear a full face mask. Leg protectors (no goalie pads, shin pads only), a chest protector and a blocker and catcher are highly recommended.
Play & Scoring: Starting: The ball should be dropped at centre by the referee.
Scoring: The ball must cross the goal line to count. Disputes over goals/non-goals are settled by the referee. If it was too close to call and no one is certain, count it as a “no goal” and keep playing (if you’re going to score – score big and make sure it’s obvious. The timer will be ticking so don’t waste your time with this!). Games are supposed to be fun and although it can get intense – be honest and keep in mind that “it’s just a game”. Be sure the chalk one up on your score board.
After a goal: A center puck drop will repeat and gameplay will continue.
After Half-Time: After half time, teams will trade sides and a center ice puck drop will resume play.
After the Game: Stop playing immediately when the referee blows the whistle to end the game. Any goals scored after the buzzer starts are not allowed (goals scored during the sound of the buzzer are not allowed). Referee and captains from both teams are required to fill out the score sheets located at rink-side. Ties are allowed. The Referee will submit the score sheet to the scorekeeper’s table together.
Slap Shots: When shooting, sticks must stay below the knee in all categories.
In case of Tie Games: • Tie Breakers: Shoot out will determine winners
• Regulation Round: Two shooters per side(must be different players from the same team)
• Still tied then one shooter per side until one team scores and the other does not.
• Shooters may shoot more than once after regulation rounds
No Shows/Late For Game: Any team who does not show or is more than 5 minutes late for their game automatically forfeits that game! The game will be considered a 1-0 win for the team who was there.
Penalties: This is only for fun and no one should intentionally trip, slash, high-stick, body/cross-check, etc… anyone else. If this happens, the other team gains possession and play will continue. It is the players responsibility to be fair and honest. If there are problems with people playing unfair or “dirty” please notify a staff member so the player and team can be dealt with.
Minor Penalties: Will result in the non offending team gaining possession of the ball.
Major Penalties: ie, slashing, intentional tripping, cross-checking, will result in the victim of the penalty being awarded a penalty shot
Stick Throwing: Throwing sticks is very dangerous and strictly prohibited. Anyone throwing their stick will result in a penalty shot awarded to the other team.
Any malicious penalties or unnecessary rough pay, will result in automatic ejection from the tournament. This will be at the officials discretion.
Fighting: There is a ZERO TOLERENCE rule for fighting. If you or anyone from your team are involved in a fight you will be expelled from the tournament – no exceptions.
That’s it, keep it simple and enjoy the day! We’re here for a good time, not a long time…
